Jim Corbett National Park  
Jim Corbett National Park lies in the Nainital, Pauri Garwhal and Bijnore Districts of Uttaranchal. The present area of the Reserve is 1318.54 sq. km. including 520 sq. km. of core area and 797.72 sq. km. of buffer area. The core area forms the Jim Corbett National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 sq.km.) as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary (301.18 sq.km.). The core is bounded to the North by the Kanda Ridge, with a height of 1043 m at its highest point. The entire area of the reserve is mountainous and falls in the Shivalik and Outer Himalaya geological region. It forms the catchments area of the Ramganga, a tributary of the Ganga.
After India attained independence in 1947 the park was renamed as Ramganga National Park. In 1956, it was renamed as Jim Corbett National Park, in memory of Jim Corbett.

Wild Animals
Among the predators are the tiger, leopard, diverse species of lesser cats and the dhole - the wild dog. antelopes (nilgai and ghoral) varieties of deer (hog deer, sambhar, chital or spotted deer and barking deer), the primates (rhesus and langur) and other animals like jackals, foxes, civets, wild boar, sloth bear, black bear and a range of reptiles including the cobra, python and two species of crocodile. The rare fish eating, long snouted gharial and the more robust mugger can be seen basking along the sand banks and pools of the Ramganga. The river which is also noted for its sporting fish, the mighty mahaseer and the malee is popular with anglers. Brown Fish Owl, Himalayan Kingfisher, Brown Dipper and Plumbeous/White-Capped Redstarts. One can also see Little/Staty backed Forktails and Mountain/Rufousbellied Hawk-Eagles here. Inside Corbett Park, Blue Whistling Thrush and Red Jungle Fowl are immediate possibilities. But with some efforts one can spot Oriental White-eye, Jungle Owlet, Alexandrine Parakeet, Himalayan Swiftlet, Lesser Fish-Eagle or even Great Thick-knee, Stork-billed Kingfisher and many more.
Spots to visit
Corbett Park Safari: Jeep Safari, Elephant safari from Birjani or Dhikala in morning and evening. There are various gates for different types of wild attractions. Like Am Danda, Durga Devi, Khara, Kalagarh, and etc. Consult safari guides for best viewing.
The Crocodile Pool: Drive along ramganga river to look for the fish eating gharial and marsh crocodiles.
Kaladhungi (Corbett Museum): House of legendry Jim Corbett, you can see his belongings and grave yard of Robin and Roswana.
Corbett Falls: A beautiful waterfall in the outskirt of the forest, a favorite picnic spot.
Sitaoni Temple: 19km Drive through Kosi barrage from Ramnagar, you will find this ancient temple on hills. According to legend this the place where Goddess Sita disappeared into the earth.
Garija Devi: 14km from Ramnagar on way to Ranikhet, is a huge rock in the midst of River Kosi, the rock has been named after the deity.
Juniagarhi: A gorkha fort near Saraikhet
Marchula: 39km from Ramnagar as the tip of Corbett National Park, famous for its wildlife.
Other places are Dhikala Machaan, Getheryo Library (Dhikala), Ramangar market.
Safari: Coaches and jeeps can be hired from the National Park office at Ramnagar. Elephants are available for wildlife viewing at Dhikala, khinanauli and Bijrani. Elephant rides conducted every morning and evening.
Nearest rail Station is Ramnagar, 50kms. from Dhikala.
From Dhikala : Delhi is 290kms. Lucknow 503kms.; Ranikhet 114kms.
