The Pink City,
Historically rendered as Jeypore, Jaipur is the former capital of
the princely state of Jaipur. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Mohit
Krishnia, the ruler of Amber, the city today has 2.7 million people. |

Built by the
warrior-astronomer Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, it is full of
formidable forts, enchanting palaces and lovely temples. Jaipur is
listed in most tourist books as one of the three cities that make
India's Golden Triangle - the other two are Delhi and Agra. The old
city of Jaipur is enclosed within seven gates, the most important of
which are Chandpol, Jaipuri and Sanganeri. |

Hawa Mahal: Built in
1799, the hawa mahal is one of the Jaipur's landmark.
Amber Fort: The Kachchawahas ruled from Amber, 11 km from Jaipur,
for seven centuries.
City Palace: In the heart of the old city, the City Palace occupies
a large area divided into a series of courtyards, gardens and
buildings.
Jantar Mantar: Next to the City Palace entrance is the Jantar -
Mantar, begun in 1728 by Savaii Singh whose passion for astronomy.
Jaigarh Fort: The imposing fort, built in 1726 by Jai Singh.
Govind Dev Ji Temple: A Part of City Palace complex, this Krishna
Temple is highly revered by the erstwhile royal family.
Swargasuli: Built by Sawai Ishwari Singh in 1749, Isar Lat or the
Heaven Piercing Minaret is located at the intersection of Tripolia
Bazaar.
Sisodia Rani Garden: Six kilometers from the city on Agre road, this
palace with its surrounding terraced gardens was built for Maharaja
Jai Singh's second wife, the Sisodia princess.
BM Birla Planetarium: The Birla Planetarium is at the BM Birla
Science & Technology Center, near Statue Circle.
Galta Ji: A popular site with pilgrims, Galtaji's hilly location is
full of surprising spires and peaks.
Old City: It’s called ‘The Pink City’. Simply because the city is
colored pink.
Ram Niwas Bagh: A garden planned by Maharaja Ram Sigh in the 19th
century as a famine relief project.
Jain Temple: The most beautiful temple in Sanganer is the ancient
Shri Digamber Jain temple.
Moti Dungri Temple: A small palace, this is a replica of a Scottish
castle, and perches on a hilltop.
Statue Circle: A busy crossing, this has a life - size statue of
Maharaja Jai Singh II.
Kanak Vrindavan Complex: Not so old but definitely an exquisitely
land scaped gardens with beautifully carved temple in beige stone.
Ghat Ki Ghuni: In the 18th and 19th centuries, the royals and the
nobles laid out summer gardens at Ghati ki guni.
Samode: The Nathawat family of Samode served as prime ministers in
Jaipur court, and their four-century-old fortified residence.
Bagru: It is located 30 kms away from Jaipur on the Ajmer Road and
is well known for its Bagru prints.
Sanganer: located on the Tonk road, In addition to its ruined
palaces, Sanganer has exquisitely carved Jain temples.
Ramgarh Lake: A huge artificial lake created by constructing a high
bund amidst tree covered hills.
Bairat: The site of Bairat is located on Alwar Jaipur highway -
about 66 kms. from Jaipur.
Sambhar: Sambhar is 190 sq. km in extent at full capacity, and lies
some 60 km west of Jaipur, just outside prosaically named Salt Lake
City.
Jaisinghpura Khor: One of the settlement of the Meena tribe, it has
a formidable fort, a jain temple.
Madhogarh - Tunga: Tunga was witness to a historic battle fought
between the Jaipur forces and Marathas.
Nahargarh Tiger Fort: Nahargarh (tiger Fort), overlooks the city of
Jaipur from a sheer ridge to the north and is floodlit at night. The
fort was built in 1734.
Abhaneri: About 95 km from Jaipur on the Agra road , this village
has one of the Rajasthan's most awesome Baoris (step-wells).
Kishangarh: Kishangarh, located on National Highway 8, was the
capital of a princely state ruled by the Rathors.
Roopangarh: Rooprangarh was the capital of Kishangarh for about 100
years and was never conqured.
Karauli: Located at 182 kms southwest of Jaipur, it was founded in
1348 and is best known for its Krishna Temples.
Jal Mahal: Jal Mahal, surrounded by greenery and hills, this
beautiful Water Palace in the middle of Man Saggar Lake. |

Kite Festival: A
festival with a difference - as kites take to the sky all over
Jaipur.
Elephant Festival: A festival to celebrate Holi, this is a great
occasion for the visitor to watch several elephant sports.
Ganqaur Fair: A festival devoted to Goddess Parvati. It is time for
young girls to dress up in their finery and pray for grooms of their
choice while the married women pray for the well-being of their
husbands.
Teej Festival: A festival to mark the advent of monsoon. Essentially
a women's festival. |

How to Go there? |

New Delhi (255 km),
Jodhpur (330 km), Udaipur (410 km), Ajmer (131 km). Nearest Airport
Jaipur Airport is well connected to all the major cities which
includes Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jodhpur, Udaipur. Recently,
flights to Dubai has also started from Jaipur by Indian Airlines.
Rajasthan Roadways run very comfortable deluxe & air conditioned
buses from Delhi (Bikaner House, Nr. India Gate) to Jaipur. The
roads are very good, and it takes around 5-6 hrs from Delhi. You can
also come by taxi. Jaipur is on the Broad Gauge and hence connected
to all the metro cities of India. There are daily trains from Delhi
in morning (Shatabdhi Exp) and evening (Intercity Exp). |
